#1 The Social Network
“If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you’d have invented Facebook.”
Despite it being a weak year for movies, our top movie of the year will very likely be in the top 10 of the decade based on how well-made it is, as well as it’s cultural relevance.
#2 Blue Valentine
“In my experience, the prettier a girl is, the more nuts she is, which makes you insane.”
#3 The King’s Speech
” …Timing isn’t my strong suit.”
#4 Black Swan
“I just want to be perfect.”
#5 Inception
“Dreams feel real while we’re in them. It’s only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.”
#6 Somewhere
“Hi, Cleo.”
My favorite part of Sofia Coppola’s 4th movie, besides the performance by the 11-year-old Elle Fanning, which somehow did not get the Oscar attention that the performances of Jennifer Lawrence and Hailee Steinfeld did, was the moment at a party where a model is inconspicuously drinking Sofia Coppola in a Can, the canned champagne from the Francis Ford Coppola vineyard.
#7 Winter’s Bone
“Never ask for what oughta be offered.”
#8 True Grit
“You must pay for everything in this world, one way and another. There is nothing free except the grace of God.”
#9 Biutiful
“You and I know the dead suffer if they leave debts behind.”
#10. Easy A
“The rumors of my promiscuity have been greatly exaggerated.”
The Oscars are just a week away, so it’s time for the annual NY Citybilly (or Online Journal or Possum Holler or Jersey Snore…) movies of the year list! The length of the list tends to change from year to year. This year I’m going to go with, oh, let’s say, 10. It wasn’t a spectacularly great year for movies, though that’s not the reason my #10 movie makes the list. It makes the list because it was a really, really good and fun movie; it’s an early front-runner for best teen comedy of the twenty-teens.
The list will continue throughout the week, with Oscar Prophecies coming on Oscar Day!
